This is a detailed instruction manual on how to play and beat
Final Fantasy III (VI) in as low a level as allowed by the game.
This manual can be used by anyone. Someone who has never before used
a Super Nintendo could use this walk-through. They would just as easily
beat this game in level 6, as a seasoned gaming veteran.

ACT I

FIRST STEP OF THE JOURNEY

Turn on your SNES console.
Choose to “Begin a new game.â€
Watch the opening credits.
Press the X button when you gain control of the party. The X button opens the
menu screen. Scroll down to Config. Press the A button to make a selection. In
this case, to access the Config Menu.
Set Bat. Mode to wait
Set Bat. Speed to 6
Set Msg. Speed to 1
Set Cursor to Memory
Set Mag. Order to 4
Set the message background screen to a setting of your preference and you
are ready to go. Press the B button to exit the Config screen.

You can place you characters in the Front row or the Back Row. Characters on
the Front Row deal more physical damage. They also take more physical
damage. Characters in the Back Row deal less physical damage. They also
take less physical damage. To change which row a character is in, move the
curser to the left, select a character, and press the A button twice. In this
case, you are going to put?? in the Back Row. Notice how ??’s picture
moves east and west. When she is east, she is in the Back Row.
When she is west, she is on the Front Row.
Make sure that ?? is in the Back Row. Exit the menu screen and
begin walking north. Notice that you are standing on what resembles a metal
grate; you will go up some stairs and a group of enemies will attack you. RUN
AWAY from the battle.

RUNNING AWAY FROM BATTLE & THE SMOKE BOMB

To RUN AWAY from a battle, hold in both the RIGHT BUTTON and LEFT
BUTTON on the top of your controller. If I do not give specific instructions on
how to defeat an enemy or escape/avoid a given battle, you are to RUN AWAY
from the battle. If you enter a battle and can not RUN AWAY (or escape using a
SMOKE BOMB, which allows you to immediately escape from battle) you will
have to reset your game, and start over from your last save. There are very few
instances where you cannot escape from battle. I will certainly mention them as
they arise.
Go up the steps and back onto the metal grate. Pass under the archway and
stop. Notice the four-way intersection of the grate you are standing on. If you
stand on that tile, you will have to battle 2 Lobo. You will avoid this battle
if you avoid the tile on the map where the two grates intersect. Keep going
north. After you have moved a few paces, you will be “pincer attackedâ€.

PINCER ATTACKED

For most of the game, when you are pincer attacked, you should use a SMOKE
BOMB. If you have no SMOKE BOMB, you may need to kill all of a certain
enemy type while leaving a minimum of one enemy alive to allow you to RUN
AWAY from the battle. The reason for this is that you cannot RUN AWAY from
some enemies. You can not run way from Lobo. You will need to kill Lobo. After
Lobo is dead, notice that you remain sandwiched between your enemies. You
cannot RUN AWAY. Kill all enemies on one side, leaving one Guard alive, and
then RUN AWAY.
Continue north. After a few paces you will be attacked. Kill the 2 Vomammoth,
and then RUN AWAY. Enter the cave at the north end of the map. Continue
north through the cave. RUN AWAY from all battles, and SAVE your game. I
recommend that you SAVE your game at every SAVE POINT.

SAVE POINTS

There are many SAVE POINT throughout the world. They sparkle brightly.
They are hard to miss. You can use the item SLEEPING BAG at a SAVE
POINT. A SLEEPING BAG gives one character full HP and full MP. The
WORLD MAP and SAVE POINT are the only pace where you can use a
SLEEPING BAG. The WORLD MAP and SAVE POINT are the only pace
where you can SAVE your game.
After you have made a SAVE, continue north. You will see a mini cut scene and
then be thrown into your first Boss Battle.

WHELK

When you gain control of the party, quickly press the Y button to switch
between your party members until you gain control of ??. Use her Tek
Missle attack and use fire beam with WEDGE and VICKS. After you have made
your three attack selections, hold down the A button so that as soon as ??
can attack again, she uses Tek Missle. You should get 2 Tek Missle attacks in
before WHELK goes into his shell. While he is in his shell, do NOT attack him.
As soon as the head reemerges, hold the A button down until all three people in
your party have selected a command.
Continue north and you will see the cut scene. When you wake up, walk over to
the clock and collect the Elixir from the clock. Head out the back door, move
west across the cat walk, and enter the cave. Make your way north-northwest.
Ignore the chests.

CHESTS

There are a number of chests throughout the world. You will be collecting the
contents of many chests. If you see a chest and I don’t mention it, do NOT
collect it. There are many reasons to skip chests. If a chest contains
something you will need, I will specifically mention the chest and/or
its contents.
When you reach the SAVE POINT, SAVE. Continue north until TERRA is
surrounded and then falls down the hole. RUN AWAY if you are attacked. If you
are pincer attacked, you know what to do. Enjoy the KEFKA flashback and
prepare for your next Boss Fight.

MOOGLE FIGHT

As soon as you have control of the parties, press the Y button. Then open the
menu screen.
Strip MOG of his MITHRIL PIKE and MITHRIL SHIELD.
Back on the map, take one step north with the MOG party and press the Y
button twice. You should now have control of the LOCKE party. Take one step
north and then one step west. Press the Y button two more times, and you will
be in control of the KUSHU party. Open the menu and move everyone to the
Back Row.

PRECISE MOVEMENT MAPPING

This process must be done quickly, if you are not fast enough, you will have to
start over from your last save. This process may “read†difficult, but once you
have an eye for what the movements look like on your television screen, it
becomes quite easy. Upon exiting the menu screen, immediately move:
one pace west
three paces south
one pace east
six paces south
one pace east
one pace south
one pace east
four paces south
one pace west
It will look as though you are about to be pincer attacked. However, at the
last moment your enemy will turn away from you. The moment the coast is
clear to the east, take two paces east and two paces south. Wait until the
enemies have cleared the area where it appeared you would be
pincer attacked. Next take that path and the west side around.
Then head south toward the boss.

MARSHAL

Ignore the Lobo for the time being, and focus your attack on Marshal. When he
is dead, kill the 2 Lobo.

MOVING ON

Pay attention to the cut scene. LOCKE takes a hidden passage. Remember the
hidden door where you exit the cave. It is an important place. After the cut
scene has completed and you regain control of your party, you should notice a
man standing in front of a building. Walk up and talk to him, and then enter
the building. Inside are three small rooms and one main room. Enter the small
room to your north. Collect the TINCTURE out of the pottery but do NOT open
the chest. In the other two small rooms open the chest. Touch the RECOVERY
SPRING (the bucket north of the door that exits the building). Remember this
RECOVERY SPRING. It is an important place.

CHARACTER SLOTS

While in the Menu Screen you can change your party’s order. There are 4
character slots for your party members to occupy. The player in character slot
#1 is the lead character and will be displayed while you are on the map screen.
If there is no one occupying character slot #1, the character occupying the
highest character slot will be displayed while you are on the map screen . You
can move characters throughout the slots at your discretion by selecting a
character and moving them up or down.
Open the menu, and put TERRA on the Front Row and in character slot #3.
Place LOCKE in the Back Row, and in slot #2. Exit, and continue south onto
the world map. SAVE. On the map, move south by southwest. Not far from the
edge of the sand, you will find FIGARO CASTLE. RUN AWAY from all battles.

FIGARO CASTLE

When you enter the castle, make your way north. Enter the throne room and
speak with EDGAR. When you gain control of TERRA, collect the FENIX
DOWN from the chest that is located behind the throne room. If you exit the
throne room you will see some stairs to the northwest. The chest is through the
doorway at the top of those stairs. Go back down the stairs. Raid the chests in
the two shops. Purchase:
3 ECHO SCREEN
and 3 ANTIDOTE.
Next go south and exit the room. Go south, and enter the west door. Go down
the stairs and out the door. Walk west until you see a building. Enter and
speak with the lady. When you regain control of TERRA, go back to the
throne room and talk to EDGAR.
… … …and so… … … it begins… … …
Speak with KEFKA’s men and then to the man himself. Next go north and
speak to LOCKE.
When you regain control of TERRA, follow LOCKE around the castle. When
you gain control of EDGAR, go north, speak to the Chancellor.

MENU SCREEN SPELLCASTING & MULTI-TARGET SPELL CASTING

To cast spells while in the menu screen, go to the SKILLS menu. Choose
Magic and scroll down to the desired spell. Select the spell with the A button.
You will now be prompted to choose a character. In battle or on the menu
screen, once you have selected a spell, tap right button once to muti-target
the spell. Many spells can be used as multi-target spells. Some spells cannot
be used as multi-target spells.

THE STEAL COMMAND & THE TOOLS COMMAND

LOCKE has the STEAL command. There are many items that can be acquired
via the STEAL Command. The STEAL Command can only be used during
battle. EDGAR has the Tools Command. This means he gets to use a few cool
little gadgets. You will only be using the Tools Command during battle.

Cast multi-target Fire with TERRA.
Use AUTO-CROSSBOW with EDGAR.
TERRA and/or LOCKE may die but EDGAR will prevail.

CHOCOBO
$$$$$$$$$$$
CHOCOBO are large bipedal birds that are used as transportation. The M-Tek
Armor battle withstanding, you cannot enter battle while ridding a CHOCOBO.
The A button advances the CHOCOBO forward. The directional pad steers the
CHOCOBO right and left. The B button causes you to dismount the
CHOCOBO.
When you regain control of the party, ride your CHOCOBO strait forward until
you reach the cave. Dismount and enter the cave.

THE PATH TO SOUTH FIGARO

This is a small cave. Be sure to SKIP ALL chests along the way. As per usual,
RUN AWAY from all battles. Once inside the cave, interact with the
RECOVERY SPRING. Open your menu. ALWAYS equip your party from top to
bottom.
Strip everyone of all equipment.
Put everyone in the Back Row.
Next equip EDGAR, LOCKE and TERRA Opt.
Put LOCKE in character slot #4.
Retrace your steps, and exit the cave. Go back onto the World Map and SAVE.
Re-enter the cave. Take the door to the east. In the next room, follow the path
east and then south. When you reach the south end of the cave you will see
some stairs to the northwest. Take the stairs. In the next room, take the door
to the west. You will exit back onto the world map. Make a SAVE. Go southeast
to the town of SOUTH FIGARO.

SOUTH FIGARO

Once in town, enter the RELICS Shop and purchase:
SPRINT SHOES.
Give them to TERRA. Take the stairs to the second floor. Follow the path.
When you reach the southwest corner, take the doorway to the south.
In the next room, notice the stairs in the southeast side of the room.
They are important. Remember the stairs in the east side of this room.
Take the stairs to the southwest, and go back outside. Make your way to the
Rich Mans House. It is the big house at the north end of town. Go to the top
floor. In the master bedroom there is a hidden door to the west of the bed (in
the northwest corner of the room.) Follow the path down stairs. When you
reach a spot where you run into a wall, go strait south, but when you do it
keep going south. You will disappear from the bottom of the screen. After you
have vanished from view, take another few paces south and then east. You will
enter a secret room containing two jail cells. Each cell contains a chest.
Give the HYPER WRIST to EDGAR.
Give the RUNNINGSHOES to TERRA.
Exit the town and SAVE. Make your way north. As per usual, RUN AWAY from
all battles. Enter the cottage, grab the TONIC out of the bucket, and sleep
in a bed. Exit and SAVE. Next make your way east. The entrance to Mt. Koltz is
located in the northeast corner of the map.

MT. KOLTZ

During the first half of Mt. Koltz, make sure to keep your party healthy with
TERRA’s Cure spell. If you get poisoned, use an ANTIDOTE. Do all healing
outside of battle. As per usual, RUN AWAY from all battles.
Once inside make your way to the door in the southeast corner. You will be
outside again. As you cross to the next door, notice the chest to the
southeast. Back inside, make your way to the southeast corner of the room.
You will have to “kind of feel your way†around. Go through the door, and
collect:
GUARDIAN
Give GUARDIAN to LOCKE.
Go back inside. Make your way to the northeast corner of the room. You will
have to “kind of feel your way†around again, but you will find a room with a
chest containing ATLAS ARMLET.
Give the ATLAS ARMLET to EDGAR.
Go back to the main room, and make your way to the door in the northwest
corner. Once outside, follow the shadowy figure around the corner. Enter the
first door, and make your way to the chest (TENT). Go back the way you came
in. Once back outside, enter the door to the west. From here on, follow the
path until you reach the SAVE POINT. Once there, heal everyone with
TERRA’s multi-target Cure, and use a SLEEPING BAG on her. SAVE.
You are now done with the first half of Mt. Koltz. From here until you reach
the boss, ALL healing is to be done by way of TONIC. Make your way along the
path, and if you become poisoned, use an ANTIDOTE. When you reach
VARGAS:
Heal with TONIC.
Put LOCKE in the Front Row.

There is about an 80% chance that you win this fight on the first go-around.
AUTO-CROSSBOW with EDGAR.
Multi-target Fire with TERRA.
Use the Fight Command with LOCKE (alternate enemy each time when
attacking with LOCKE.)
There is a tiny chance that LOCKE will do MIRAGE. It is all but certain that
TERRA will die. There is a good chance that both LOCKE and TERRA will die.
Regardless, keep EDGAR going with his AUTO-CROSSBOW until SABIN
shows up. When SABIN does arrive, choose The BLITZ command and do the
move PUMMEL (left-right-left-A.)

THE BLITZ COMMAND
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
SABIN has the BLITZ command. If you have ever played Street Fighter II, you
know about Ryu’s fireball. The BLITZ command actually uses the exact
combination of controller movements as Ryu’s fireball for one of the BLITZ
maneuvers. AURABOLT is executed by rotating the D PAD; Down-Down and
Left-Left-A button. To view the list of BLITZs’ SABIN has learned; open the
menu, select skills, select BLITZ.
After the cut scene, enter the door that VARGAS was blocking. Get the chest,
(TENT) and exit to the south. If LOCKE is still alive, strip him of
everything. If he has died, use a TENT and then strip him of everything.
It is paramount that LOCKE has NOTHING in his inventory! SAVE.
Make your way north to the Returners Hideout.
RUN AWAY from all battles.

RETURNERS HIDEOUT

Before you enter the Returners Hideout, double check to make sure that
LOCKE has nothing in his inventory. SAVE. Enter the hideout and speak to
BANNON. When you gain control of TERRA, speak to LOCKE, and get the
chest. Speak to SABIN and check the pottery to the north. Speak to EDGAR
and get the chest. Next go to the shop and purchase:
5 TONIC
Go to the far northwest corner of the hideout. There you will find a room.
At the north end of the room, you will find 4 chests, a bucket, and pottery.
Search them all. Each contains a useful item. There is also a HIDDEN CHEST
located at the end of a short tunnel. You can access it by walking along the
edge of the northeast corner of the room. This chest contains a:
WHITE CAPE
You MUST COLLECT the WHITE CAPE!
Go back to the main room. Talk to the man standing in front of the exit. Exit
and you will see BANNON to the east. Speak to him, say “NOâ€. Go back inside.
Repeat three times. After the third time, you will get a cut scene. LOCKE will
leave and go his own way. You will receive the:
GENJI GLOVE.
BANNON will now be part of your party. Open your menu, make sure that BANNON
is in the Back Row, and that everyone else is on the Front Row. Exit and SAVE.

PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

At certain points in the game, you will have temporary control of various
animals/characters/machines. So far, there has been; WEDGE and VICKS, M-
Tek Armor, Moogles, CHOCOBO and BANNON. These temporary situations
can be used to help you in various ways. This time you are going to use
BANNON to collect some of the GP that will soon be needed.

5,800 GP

Walk around until you encounter a battle. Kill off everyone except BANNON.
For once, you are actually going to be fighting enemies instead of running
away from them. What you are going to do here is collect some GP.
I recommend that you have no less than 5,800 GP before you advance.
Make sure to SAVE after every battle. You may notice that Bannon is gaining
levels. This is of no concern. BANNON’s level will not get calculated into your
party’s level. This makes him a wonderful tool for collecting GP. Once you
have your 5,800 GP, enter the Hide Out. Stay at the INN and make your way to
the SAVE POINT. Open your menu. Strip everyone of all weapons and armor.
Put everyone in the Back Row.

Give SABIN the WHITE CAPE. Equip him Opt.
Equip EDGAR Opt.
Equip TERRA Opt.
SAVE.
Now head directly south and into the hidden passageway. When you reach the
river, jump onto the raft. Float your way up the river and go “left†every
time you are prompted to make a choice. RUN AWAY from all battles, and when you
reach a SAVE POINT, SAVE. At the second SAVE POINT, heal with TONIC
and SAVE. Jump back onto the raft. You are now on your way to meet
ULTROS.

You should win on your first try. There is only about a 1/1000 chance that
TERRA will survive, but don’t worry about her. Continue what you are doing,
and you should be fine.
Have EDGAR AUTO-CROSSBOW
Have SABIN AURABOLT (down rotate to the left- A button.)
Have TERRA Cast Fire
Have BANNON “HEALâ€

After the battle is over, you will be prompted to pick a scenario. Choose the
BANNON scenario. When you are back on the World Map, SAVE. Follow the
path north to NARSHE. When you reach the town, go hit the RECOVERY
SPRING. Exit the building, and go west. Interact with the wall at the spot that
LOCKE opened the secret door at the beginning of the game.
Make your way though the cave, along the same path TERRA took when you
left the house with the Elixir in the clock. That house is your destination.
Along the way you will have to go through a security check point.
You will know it when you see it. Make sure you fail the check point until you
encounter:
DARK SIDE.
Attack DARK SIDE with anyone, and then RUN AWAY.
Successfully go through the check point, and then continue on your way. Make
sure to grab the 2 chests you left behind on your last trip through this cave.
As you are CROSSING the catwalk and BEFORE you enter the house, open your
inventory.

BE SURE TO STRIP TERRA AND EDGAR OF EVERYTHING, INCLUDING RELICS!

Then enter the house. Watch the cut scene and choose the LOCKE scenario.

When you gain control of LOCKE, give him:

Equip him Opt. Give him GUARDIAN. Put him in the Back Row.
Make your way up the stairs, and enter the shop. There will be a Merchant
standing at the north end of the room. Pick a fight with him, and
STEAL his clothes. Next go to the Old Man’s house. The Old Man’s house
is to the southwest. Go downstairs, and exit to the north. To the west is a
bridge that is unblocked by the Imperials. You can’t really see it because
there is a building hiding it from your view. Use the hidden bridge and
make your way to the INN.
Do you remember purchasing the SPRINT SHOES and then going up the
stairs? Remember the stairs in the east end of the room that you were suppose
to remember? Take those stairs. There is a room down those stairs. That room
contains a Merchant. Pick a fight with the Merchant. STEAL his clothes and
then take the Cider back to the Old Man. Go back down stairs and give the kid
the password:
COURAGE
Make your way to the Rich Mans house via the Secret Passageway.
Make sure to grab the ELIXER from the clock and the FENIX DOWN
from the barrel. When you reach the patio of the Rich Man’s house,
go inside and up stairs to the master bedroom. Take the secret
passageway. There will be a cut scene when you reach the first door.
Walk up to CELES and choose “Free CELES.†Take the key from the guard,
and exit the room. Back in the hallway, open your menu.
Put CELES in the Back Row.
Equip her Opt.
Put her in slot #4.
SAVE your game in the middle room, and then enter the room to the east. Get
all of the chests. Wind the clock in the northeast corner of the room, and then
enter the newly-opened door.

MORE OF THE RICH MANS’ TREASURE

RUN AWAY from all battles. Outside of battle, use CELES’s Cure spell to heal
the party. There are a few key items that you MUST collect down here. You will
find the first chest to the southeast. It contains an:
IRON ARMOR
It is locateddown a straight narrow hallway that runs north and south.
After you get the chest, go north. Take the path to the east and when you
reach the hallway running north and south, STOP. Take 3 paces south and
3 paces west. Then go south until you reach some stairs. Take the stairs.
You will find a sub-basement containing a few goodies. It is paramount that
you get the:
RIBBON
It is hidden in a chest, off of the screen, and directly south of the
chest with the X-POTION.
Make your way back up the stairs, and get the two chests off to the northeast:
HEAVY SHIELD
Next go to the far southwest corner, and get the:
EARRRINGS
Exit the basement by way of the stairs to your east. Exit the house via the
door to the north. When you exit, continue going north and you will find
yourself back on the World Map.

Once back on the world map, SAVE. RUN AWAY from all battles. Outside of
battle, use CELES’s Cure spell to keep the party healthy. Go up to the cottage
and get some sleep. Next head west and make your way to the entrance of the
Cave. SAVE.
Enter and make your way through the cave. Make sure to get the:
TINCTURE Southeast area of the main room.
THUNDER ROD Hidden in a room accessible from the northwest corner
of the main room.
When you reach the RECOVERY SPRING, heal and open your menu. Go to
your items, and place TONIC at the top of the list. Place POTION next in line.
Next, strip everyone of EVERYTHING, including RELICS.
Give LOCKE GENJI GLOVE.
Make sure he has AIR LANCET and GUARDIAN equipped.
Give him LEATHER HAT and LEATHER ARMOR.
Give CELES TRUE KNIGHT.
Give her REGAL CUTLAS, HEAVY SHIELD, and LEATHER ARMOR.

TUNNEL ARMOR

This battle can be easy, or it can be difficult, but it’s basically as easy as
you make it. What you want to do is RUNIC with CELES as soon as it is her turn.
For the duration of this battle, you will use only the RUNIC command with
CELES. However, you never want to RUNIC twice in a row unless interrupted
by a magic attack from TUNNEL ARMOR. CELES should be open to command
at almost anytime during the battle. As soon as TUNNEL ARMOR casts a spell,
RUNIC and then wait until another spell is cast and repeat. LOCKE will be
doing everything else. STEAL until you are successful. Next use him as your
healer by way of TONIC. Or, if your health falls below 30, use a POTION. If no
one needs healing, choose the Fight Command. By repeating these two
processes without making a mistake, you should win this fight on your first
try. If LOCKE dies, have CELES cast Ice until she either kills TUNNEL ARMOR,
or dies trying. If CELES dies, it’s not worth the FENIX DOWN. Have LOCKE
use the Fight Command until he either kills TUNNEL ARMOR, or dies trying.
If you fail to beat TUNNEL ARMOR, reset and load your game. Up next is the
SABIN scenario.

This scenario is by far the most time-consuming of the three. When you have
control of SABIN, SAVE. Go to the cottage to the east. You will see a Merchant
mounted upon a CHOCOBO. Go and speak to him. Purchase:
10 SHURIKEN
and 6 TONIC.
Next, talk to the man in black. Once SHADOW has joined your party,
remove his equipment. Make sure everyone is in the Back Row.
Give SABIN RIBBON and EARRINGS.
Equip him Opt.
Give SHADOW WHITE CAPE and SPRINT SHOES.
Equip him Opt.
Next enter the cottage. Take a nap and then go back out onto the World Map.
SAVE. SHADOW will be in level 5. Head east and then south, along the coast.
When you see the patch of sand in front of a small bridge, you have reached
the IMERIAL BASE. As always, RUN AWAY from everything. If Interseptor
counters and that kill ends the battle, reset the game.

Once inside the base, watch the cut scenes. When you gain control of CYAN:
Put him in the Back Row.
Give him ATLAS ARMLET and HYPER WRIST.

Use Swd Tech #2.
When you gain control of SHADOW, enter the Tent to the southeast
and interact with the chest inside. When prompted select “hit it.â€
After the guard leaves, open the chest. Exit the Tent, and continue south
to the next cut scene. Use the Fight Command on KEFKA both times.
When he stops to talk to a soldier, go north and enter the Tent.
Before opening any of the chests,
heal with TONIC. Open both of the chests.

AURABOLT with SABIN.
Throw SHURIKEN with SHADOW.
If someone does die, use a FENIX DOWN on him, and keep attacking.
When you win, give SABIN the:

Use AURABOLT and Throw SHURIKEN in all remaining battles.

THE UNSUNG HERO

CYAN’s tragic scene is next. He freaks out and goes all
“My name is CYAN GARAMONDE… You killed my family… Prepare to die…â€
on the Empire. Give him a hand with it. When you get into the
Magitec Armor:
Make sure CYAN is in the Back Row.
Strip SHADOW of EVERYTHING, including RELICS.
Give CYAN WHITE CAPE and SPRINT SHOES.
Equip him Opt.
You will fight 3 battles in the Magitec Armor. During the 3rd battle make sure
to use Heal Force to heal the party to full, then attack. Exit the Base. SAVE.
Make your way through the PHANTOM Forest and onto the PHANTOM Train.
Make sure to hit up the RECOVERY SPRING (pond) along the way.

Before leaving the train, you MUST ACQUIRE the:

RUN AWAY from all battles. If someone dies leave them dead.
Once on the train, try to leave the way entered. Then go to the caboose on the
east end of the train. Talk to the ghost. Have him join your party, and put
him in the Back Row. If your ghost friend dies before you fight SPECTOR, make
sure to pick up a different ghost. Throughout the train, there will be random
ghosts who will join your party. From here on, keep heading west, towards the
engine. When you reach the Dinning Car, grab a bite to eat.
Make sure to collect the EARRINGS. The chest with the EARRRINGS is on the
west end of the Dinning car, and can only be accessed from the west side of
the Dinning Car.
Give the EARRRINGS to SABIN in place of RUNNINGSHOES.
Give the RUNNINGSHOES to CYAN in place of WHITE CAPE.
When you reach the room containing the 4 chests, get the chests.
When you find SPECTOR in the chest, use “possess†with your little
ghost friend. When you reach the engine, enter the cab,
and hit the left and right switches.
Go back outside and press A button on the smokestack.

PHANTOM TRAIN

As soon as you can attack, use FENIX DOWN on the train.
Watch the cut scene. When you gain control of the party SAVE.
Next follow the path and you will end up at Baron Falls. Double-check to make

I figure you have about a 75% chance of beating this guy on your first try.
If RIZOPAZ casts Elninio you will probably die.

When GAU runs off, leave your character motionless for a moment.
This is probably the most peaceful place in the world.
Take a minute or two to appreciate the attention to detail that was put
into such a simple place. Think about how long it took the
programmers of this game to create this one simple place, a place that was
not even needed. And a place to which you will never return.

CHANGING GEAR DURING BATTLE

You can change what weapons and/or shield your characters have equipped
during battle. To do this, select “itemâ€. Next press up on the D-Pad.
You will be given the option to select whatever is equipped in either your
right or left hand. If you have a GENJI GLOVE equipped, you could have
2 weapons to choose from. Select the gear you want to replace by pressing
the A button. Now scroll down to the gear you want to equip and press the A
button (the gear you are allowed to equip is highlighted yellow.)
Now press the B button. Your gear has been swapped.

THE VELDT

Give CYAN WHITE CAPE in place of RUNNINGSHOES.
Give SABIN RIBBON and RUNNINGSHOES.
Heal with TONIC, and if you run
out, don’t worry about it. When on the World Map, SAVE. Make your way east,
toward the town of MOBLITZ. KILL ALL ENEMIES you encounter.
If you encounter GAU, attack him. I know it doesn’t feel right, but that is
just the way it is. When you get to town you will need to do some shopping.
Purchase:
1 MAGUS HAT
10 DRIED MEAT
1 MITHRIL CLAW
1 KOTETSU
Open your menu. Equip your newly purchased weapons.
Choose “arrange†in your items menu and put DRIED MEAT at the top
of the list, followed by FENIX DOWN and TINCTURE. Next go to the RELICS
shop. Sleep in the bed. Exit and SAVE. Start fighting battles. When GAU shows
up, give him a piece of DRIED MEAT. He will join your party.
Give GAU both of your EARRRINGS
Equip him Opt.

GAU is very unique. He does not equip weapons. He has the LEAP Command.
He has the RAGE Command. His home is the VELDT and he can be left there
indefinitely. He is the key to this journey.
Before you can advance, there are a number of RAGEs’ you will NEED to
learn. The enemies you will NEED to use the “LEAP†command on are:
RODOX, DARK SIDE, TEMPLAR, and PRIMORDITE.
After you kill 2 TELSTAR, equip CYAN and GAU with GREEN BERET.
From now until you leave the Veldt, your all around best attacks are:
AURABOLT
DISPATCH
TEMPLAR RAGE.
There is nothing wrong with battling just outside of town. That way when you
get low on health, you can pop into the RELICS shop for a free nap.
SAVE often. When you have learned the 4 RAGEs’ you NEED to learn,
head back to town. Purchase:
9 SLEEPING BAG
As many DRIED MEAT as you can afford (maximum of 50).
Put GAU in the Back Row.
SAVE. Take a nap at the RELICS shop. Exit town and SAVE. Fight until you have
amassed between 25,000-30,000 GP. When you have your GP,
go back to town. Purchase:
DRIED MEAT until you have a total of 50 DRIED MEAT.
After you have your DRIED MEAT, and know your RAGEs’,
double check to be sure you have NO LESS THAN 25,000 GP. You are ready
to continue on your adventure.

CAVE IN THE VELDT

Make your way south across the Veldt. When you reach the cave,
make a SAVE. Enter the cave, and find GAU’s:
TREASURE
The treasure is located in the southwest corner of the cave, and right in the
middle of the path. If you look closely there are tiles where the ground looks
as though it may have been disturbed. The Treasure is buried in one of those
tiles. After you have the Treasure, go back out the way you came in.
Make a SAVE. Re-enter the cave, and go back to where the Treasure was.
To the south of there, you will find the jump sight. Jump into the river.

RAGING RIVERS

From here on out, you are RUNNING AWAY from all battles.
As you ride the river, you will be thrown into battle. RUN AWAY.
You will be prompted to go east or west. Make sure you always take

In the second cave there is a switch you must stand on. The switch drains the
water so that you can advance. In the next room, collect the chest:

Exit the cave. Once you reach NIKEAH harbor, enter the town.

You should remember the battle you had using the Moogles against Marshal
Where you stripped Mog of his Shield, and his Pike. This is going to play out
the same way as that battle did. You will be in control of TERRA.
Walk up to CELES and press the A button.
Strip CELES of everything.
Next go over to EDGAR.
Give EDGAR HYPER WRIST, and ATLAS ARMLET.
Equip him Opt. Give him TONIC.
Next go over to LOCKE.
Give LOCKE HYPER WRIST. Let him equip Opt.
Then make sure he has GUARDIAN equipped. Put him on the Front Row.
If he is not at full health, give him TONIC.
SAVE!
Next talk to BANNON, and set up the parties. Party number one is the only
important party. Party number one is displayed below. As for the other
2 parties, you can construct them as you see fit.

You are going to have to do this very quickly. Just as in the Moogle battle,

Once you arrive in FIGARO, stay at the INN.
Make sure EDGAR is in the party lead, and do some shopping. Purchase:

25 FENIX DOWN
2 REVEVIFY
10 ANTIDOTE
Next open the item menu, choose “arrange†items, and move SMOKE BOMB to
the top of the list; followed by DRIED MEAT, FENIX DOWN and TINCTURE.
Next, go down stairs, and tell the man to take you to KOHLINGEN.
Once on the other side of the mountain, exit, and SAVE.

HOP SKIP AND A JUMP

Head north along the coast until you reach a cottage.
Inside you will find some pottery. One of the pieces of pottery contains
a HERO RING. Exit the cottage, and enter the patch of trees to the northwest of
the cottage. Inside of the trees is a CHOCOBO stable.

Rent a CHOCOBO. Make your way south, all the way around the mountains.
Past the town of JIDOOR, and back north, all the way up to the town of ZOZO.
When you reach ZOZO, Dismount the CHOCOBO.
Give GAU HYPER WRIST, and HERO RING.
Give LOCKE RUNNINGSHOES in place of HYPER WRIST. Equip him Opt.
Put him in the Back Row.
Make sure everyone is at full health. If anyone is not at full health,
use TONIC or DRIED MEAT. SAVE.

If you get into battle with either HEGEUS GIGUS or SLAMDANCER,
use a SMOKE BOMB. You should RUN AWAY from everything else.
Between battles, use DRIED MEAT and TONIC to keep the party healthy.
The goal is to make your way to the top of the tallest building.
There are two points where you will have to jump from building to building.
Go southwest, past the Café.
Enter the building with the RELICS icon above the door.
Make your way to the top of the building. When you reach the floor with all the
dudes moving in line, get in line and go through the door at the top.
When you are back outside, go up one floor, and stop.
Notice what appears to be a door at the west side of this story of the
building. It is a place where you can jump over to the building to the west.
Enter the doorway, and press left on the D-Pad. Go a few paces west,
and jump to the far west building. Follow the path, and you will come across
some pottery and a bucket. Search the two north most pottery. You will collect
a TINCTURE and a POTION. Continue along the path. When you reach the top
of the building, jump over to the east most building. Follow the path until you
see a man blocking he way. Look to the southeast of where the
man is standing. There is a door. Inside is a chest containing FIRE KNUCKLE.
Collect the chest, and walk up to the man and open your menu.
Give LOCKE SNEAK RING in place of SPRINT SHOES.
Heal everyone via DRIED MEAT. Talk to the man.

Make your way south to JIDOOR. RUN AWAY from all battles.
Use CELES’s Cure spell outside of battle to heal. Once in JIDOOR,
go to OZAR’s House. His house is the massive house at the north end of town.
Speak with IMPRESARIO. In the pottery found in the northeast-most
corner of the house, you will find a:
TINCTURE
Read the letter on the floor, and exit town. Make a SAVE. Take the path to
south, to the OPERA HOUSE.
SAVE.

OPERA HOUSE PART I

Before you enter, use CELES to heal the party via multi-cast Cure.
Put CYAN, and LOCKE on the Front Row. SAVE. When you enter,
talk to IMPRESARIO. Watch the cut scene, and the opening of the opera.
When you gain control of LOCKE, make your way downstairs,
and enter the room to the east. Talk to CELES. Do her part of the show.
Choose her lines in this order:

“I’m the darknessâ€

After you have chosen her lines, walk up to the other actor,
and press the A button. Follow him around and every time he stops,
interact with him. When he turns into flowers, pick them up.
Use the stairs to get to the top of the stage. Walk over to the ledge,
and go as far west as you can. The scene ends, and you regain
control of LOCKE. Pick up the note, and run back upstairs.
Inform IMPRESARIO of what has transpired. When the countdown begins,
let the time run out. You will be kicked out of the OPERA HOUSE.

OPERA HOUSE PART II

Make a SAVE, and enter. When LOCKE is free to move around again, go back
out to the foyer, and grab ULTROS’s note. Talk to IMPRESARIO,
and then make your way northeast. In the next room hit the far right switch,
and go back the way you came. Make your way to the far northwest side,
and enter the next room. You will notice Rats roaming around on the rafters.
If you contact one, you are thrown into battle.
You must reach ULTROS fighting no more than two battles consisting of only
three enemies per fight. GAU must NOT attack until the gold rat, CYAN,
and LOCKE are dead. GAU must be the only party member alive at the end of
each battle. There will be two battles with Sewer Rats and both will be fought
the exact same way.

SEWER RATS

Have CYAN and LOCKE use the Fight Command.
Target ONLY the Gold Sewer Rat.
If needed, have GAU use DRIED MEAT to heal himself.
Do NOT heal CYAN or LOCKE.
When the Gold Rat is dead, have LOCKE and CYAN kill each other.
GAU should be at full health. When the gold rat, CYAN and LOCKE
are all dead, have GAU use his RODOX RAGE.
Wait for the battle to finish, and as soon as you are able, heal the
party full. Use FENIX DOWN on the fallen, and then heal with DRIED MEAT.
As soon as you finish your second battle with Sewer Rats,
use FENIX DOWN on the fallen, and then heal with DRIED MEAT.
Then get to ULTROS as fast as you can. Be mindful that you can only
have two battles consisting of only three enemies per fight.
When you reach ULTROS:
Give LOCKE RIBBON in place of SPRINT SHOES.
Put LOCKE in slot #4.
Put both CYAN and LOCKE in the Back Row.

After LOCKE has used his Esper, have him heal the party via DRIED MEAT.

ULTROS has been hit by NUMB BLADE. After that, use the Fight Command.
There is a tiny chance that LOCKE will do MIRAGE, but don’t count on it.
The only problem you could face is if GAU refuses to do his
NUMB BLADE attack. CYAN or possibly even GAU
(very rarely will GAU get hit) will become an “Imp†or get poisoned.
If Imp hits, use a GREEN CHERRY. If Poison hits, use an ANTIDOTE.
If it takes GAU a while to do his NUMB BLADE attack, don’t sweat it.
He will do it eventually. Keep using DISPATCH with CYAN, and keep using
items with LOCKE. If CYAN or GAU get muddled, have LOCKE use
Fight Command on the muddled character right away. After the fight is over,
enjoy the fairly long cut scene, and get ready for the
next leg of your journey!

When you gain control of the party, SAVE.
Give LOCKE SPRINT SHOES in place of RIBBON.
Give CELES the Esper SIREN, and put her in slot #4.
SAVE. Enter the Air Ship. Get REFRESHMENTS from the man to the west.
Remove your 3 GREEN BERET. Go talk to the man on to the east,
and sell all of your GREEN BERET. You should have between 4 and 12
of them. You should now have more than 17,400 GP. If you do not have
17,400 GP, you can sell your FIRE KNUCKLE and/or PEACE RING.
When you have your 17,400 GP, exit the Air Ship, and enter the
town of ALBROOK. Go to the RELICS shop and purchase a:
WALL RING
Go to the weapons shop and purchase:
FORGED
Exit and SAVE. Make your way northwest and you will run into the city
of VECTOR. SMOKE BOMB every time you get attacked.

VECTOR PART I

Enter the city and go west. You will see a thin building, enter it
and talk to the lady. Answer “no.†Upon answering no, you will be
thrown into battle. RUN AWAY. Talk to the woman again.
She is now a RECOVERY SPRING.
Next go to the armor shop. Purchase:
3 BARDS HAT
1 MITHRIL VEST.
Give CYAN WALL RING in place of HYPER WRIST.
Equip him Opt. Give him BUCKLER.
Give LOCKE BARDS HAT and remove his RUNNINGSHOES.
Give GAU WALL RING in place of HYPER WRIST. Equip him Opt.
Give CELES RUNNINGSHOES and WHITE CAPE. Equip her Opt.
Go back and talk with the RECOVERY SPRING lady. Exit town and SAVE.

Go back into town. Head northeast and you will see a man who is standing
behind some crates. Talk to him. When you interact with him, approach him
from the east side. Tell him “yesâ€. After the mini cut scene:
take 1 pace north,
3 paces west,
and one pace south.
Laugh at the second half of the mini cut scene and go north
and into the MAGITEK FACTORY.

You are going to SMOKE BOMB just about every fight you get into.
However, if you get a “side attack†you should be able to save a SMOKE BOMB
and just RUN AWAY. You can probably RUN AWAY from battles where
you have a “preemptive†attack as well. If you run low on health,
on your way to the SAVE POINT, don’t worry about it.
Keep using your SMOKE BOMB. You can heal when you get there.
There are a number of must collect items in here.
I will be mentioning these items as you come across them.
Follow the path. When you reach some tubes, take the top tube west.
Get the chest:
FLAME SABER
Next, take the crane east, across the gap. Continue east, and notice the chest
to the south. Take the second tube south and get the chest:
TINCTURE
Go back up and take the other tube south. When you get off the conveyor,
grab the chest to your west:
X-POTION
Then go east onto the next conveyor. Grab the chest to your northeast :
THUNDER BLADE
Then go south. Grab the next chest and get on the next conveyor.
Next go west-southwest and get the chest:
DRAGOONBOOTS
Then take the stairs north. Follow the path leading to the chest:
GOLD SHIELD
Give the GOLD SHIELD to CELES.
Next make your way back to the bottom
of the stairs. Continue going east until you hit a wall.
Go south and down the short flight of stairs.
Keep going south and again hit the wall. Stop.
To the left is a small room which contains a chest:
GOLD HELMET
The door to the room blends into the wall a little bit.
After you get the chest go back out and head east.
As you walk, look to the south for another door that tends to blend into
the wall. Behind that door is a small room containing a chest:
GOLD ARMOR
The chest is hidden from view. It’s to the west and a little north
when you are inside the room.
Give the GOLD ARMOR to CELES.
Go back out of the room and take the stairs to your right.
Grab the chest:
TENT
Go back to the conveyer that brought you here.
When you get back to the conveyer, do NOT get back on.
Go across to the north side of the conveyer. Go up the stairs and east.
Notice that there is a break in the crates. Look closer, you will see a
tube there. Enter the tube and follow the path to the south. After a few
paces you will see a small room to the east.
Get both chests:
BLIZZARD
ZEPHYER CAPE
Give the ZEPHYER CAPE to LOCKE
Go back to where you came from. Once out of the tube, go north
and then west. Get on the conveyor. Next go south and check out KEFKA
being KEFKA. When he is through, take the conveyor down.
When you get to the bottom, stop and look for a moment.
There are two doors on the northern wall.
Immediately enter the west most door.
Heal with DRIED MEAT and/or FENIX DOWN.
Give LOCKE SNEAK RING in place of SPRINT SHOES.
SAVE.

IFRIT & SHEIVA

You have about a 95% chance of winning this battle on the first attempt.
About the only reason for you to lose would be if IFRIT casts
multi-target Blaze. Do you remember fighting Tunnel Armor with LOCKE and CELES?
This fight uses the same strategy. If LOCKE dies before he uses his Esper,
reset and load your game.
You NEED to use LOCKE’s Esper with your first attack.
RUNIC with your second attack.
Then DISPATCH and the BRAWLER RAGE.
If LOCKE dies after the first round of attack, let him lay there.
If CELES dies you will probably be fine as well.
DISPATCH as soon as CYAN can attack,
and RUNIC the moment CELES needs to RUNIC.
GAU is on autopilot. LOCKE will probably die. It would be sweet if he could
show off his MIRAGE move in one of these fights. He will do it eventually
but it sure is rare.

After you win, go talk to both Espers. Collect their MAGICITE.
Go back to the room with the SAVE POINT. If someone died, use a Tent.
If not, heal with CELES’s Cure. Then use a SLEEPING BAG on her.
Give CYAN 2 HYPER WRIST.
Give GAU HYPER WRIST and ATLAS ARMLET.
Give LOCKE SPRINT SHOES in place of ZEPHYER CAPE.
Give CELES the Esper SHIVA and THUNDER BLADE.
SAVE.
Exit the room with the SAVE POINT, and enter the door to the east.
Make your way up the stairs. SMOKE BOMB everything.
Follow the path to #024. When you reach him:
Give LOCKE RUNNINGSHOES in place of SPRINT SHOES.
Heal with TONIC and you are ready to go.

I figure you have about a 75% chance of beating this guy on your first attempt.
If he does his earth attack, you will die. He will rarely use this attack.
He has to be in a certain Wall Change. While in this specific state,
he must execute a particular command. Let’s just say it’s RARE
and leave it at that.
DISPATCH
BRAWLER RAGE.
Use LOCKE’s Esper and then STEAL until successful.
Multi-target Cure the party with CELES.
After LOCKE has stolen his item, have him use the Fight Command
or act as a second healer.
If LOCKE dies, bring him back with CELES by way of FENIX DOWN
and vice versa. Keep an eye on CELES’s MP. When you see that she has
only 8 MP left, have use her multi-target Cure but on LOCKE’s next turn,
have him use a TINCTURE on CELES. This way she never has to skip a turn
healing the party. If CYAN or GAU die, have LOCKE use a FENIX DOWN.
Ideally you would like to use FENIX DOWN with LOCKE and then immediately
multi-target Cure (or use FENIX DOWN and immediately use DRIED MEAT.)
If CELES runs out of MP a second time,
(she will probably NOT run out a second time) don’t bother using another
TINCTURE. Just have her use the Fight Command for the remained of the battle.
If the battle has lasted that long, #024 has very little HP left and will
die quite soon.

Go through the doorway to the north. Walk up to the far north end of the room
and hit the switch. Watch the cut scene. Next go down the elevator with CID.

Just as poison or haste, vanish is a status “ailmentâ€. While a characters
status is vanish, they are 100% immune to physical attacks.
On the other hand, they are 100% vulnerable to magic attacks.
Like almost all spells, vanish can be cast on your party,
as well as an enemy party. Vanish can only be used in battle.

MAG ROADERS

I give you a 65% chance of doing this perfectly on your first attempt.
I give you an 85% chance of doing this perfectly by your third attempt.
There are 6 total battles here (including the boss). Specific people need to
be alive and specific people need to be dead at the end of each battle.
You must do this EXACTLY as it is written. If you make a mistake
or something just fails to work out for you, you will need to
reset your console and load your game.

BATTLE #1

At the end of the battle, LOCKE needs to be DEAD. GAU and CYAN
need to be ALIVE. If CYAN dies towards the beginning that is totally fine.
Just wait until one of the Mag Roaders kills itself by casting a spell on GAU.
As soon as there is only one Mag Roader alive, bring CYAN back via
FENIX DOWN, and heal him via DRIED MEAT.
I recommended that you do NOT use GAU’s RAGEs’. Use DISPATCH until
you kill it or it kills itself by casting a spell on GAU. If you want to
risk the biscuit, you CAN use the TEMPLAR RAGE. The problem with using
a RAGE is that CYAN could be killed before GAU kills the Mag Roader.
If that happens, you would have to reset and load your game.

FIRST STEP OF THE JOURNEY

Turn on your SNES console.
Choose to “Begin a new game.â€
Watch the opening credits.
Press the X button when you gain control of the party. The X button opens the
menu screen. Scroll down to Config. Press the A button to make a selection. In
this case, to access the Config Menu.
Set Bat. Mode to wait
Set Bat. Speed to 6
Set Msg. Speed to 1
Set Cursor to Memory
Set Mag. Order to 4
Set the message background screen to a setting of your preference and you
are ready to go. Press the B button to exit the Config screen.

You can place you characters in the Front row or the Back Row. Characters on
the Front Row deal more physical damage. They also take more physical
damage. Characters in the Back Row deal less physical damage. They also
take less physical damage. To change which row a character is in, move the
curser to the left, select a character, and press the A button twice. In this
case, you are going to put?? in the Back Row. Notice how ??’s picture
moves east and west. When she is east, she is in the Back Row.
When she is west, she is on the Front Row.
Make sure that ?? is in the Back Row. Exit the menu screen and
begin walking north. Notice that you are standing on what resembles a metal
grate; you will go up some stairs and a group of enemies will attack you. RUN
AWAY from the battle.

RUNNING AWAY FROM BATTLE & THE SMOKE BOMB

To RUN AWAY from a battle, hold in both the RIGHT BUTTON and LEFT
BUTTON on the top of your controller. If I do not give specific instructions on
how to defeat an enemy or escape/avoid a given battle, you are to RUN AWAY
from the battle. If you enter a battle and can not RUN AWAY (or escape using a
SMOKE BOMB, which allows you to immediately escape from battle) you will
have to reset your game, and start over from your last save. There are very few
instances where you cannot escape from battle. I will certainly mention them as
they arise.
Go up the steps and back onto the metal grate. Pass under the archway and
stop. Notice the four-way intersection of the grate you are standing on. If you
stand on that tile, you will have to battle 2 Lobo. You will avoid this battle
if you avoid the tile on the map where the two grates intersect. Keep going
north. After you have moved a few paces, you will be “pincer attackedâ€.

PINCER ATTACKED

For most of the game, when you are pincer attacked, you should use a SMOKE
BOMB. If you have no SMOKE BOMB, you may need to kill all of a certain
enemy type while leaving a minimum of one enemy alive to allow you to RUN
AWAY from the battle. The reason for this is that you cannot RUN AWAY from
some enemies. You can not run way from Lobo. You will need to kill Lobo. After
Lobo is dead, notice that you remain sandwiched between your enemies. You
cannot RUN AWAY. Kill all enemies on one side, leaving one Guard alive, and
then RUN AWAY.
Continue north. After a few paces you will be attacked. Kill the 2 Vomammoth,
and then RUN AWAY. Enter the cave at the north end of the map. Continue
north through the cave. RUN AWAY from all battles, and SAVE your game. I
recommend that you SAVE your game at every SAVE POINT.

SAVE POINTS

There are many SAVE POINT throughout the world. They sparkle brightly.
They are hard to miss. You can use the item SLEEPING BAG at a SAVE
POINT. A SLEEPING BAG gives one character full HP and full MP. The
WORLD MAP and SAVE POINT are the only pace where you can use a
SLEEPING BAG. The WORLD MAP and SAVE POINT are the only pace
where you can SAVE your game.
After you have made a SAVE, continue north. You will see a mini cut scene and
then be thrown into your first Boss Battle.

When you gain control of the party, quickly press the Y button to switch
between your party members until you gain control of ??. Use her Tek
Missle attack and use fire beam with WEDGE and VICKS. After you have made
your three attack selections, hold down the A button so that as soon as ??
can attack again, she uses Tek Missle. You should get 2 Tek Missle attacks in
before WHELK goes into his shell. While he is in his shell, do NOT attack him.
As soon as the head reemerges, hold the A button down until all three people in
your party have selected a command.
Continue north and you will see the cut scene. When you wake up, walk over to
the clock and collect the Elixir from the clock. Head out the back door, move
west across the cat walk, and enter the cave. Make your way north-northwest.
Ignore the chests.

CHESTS

There are a number of chests throughout the world. You will be collecting the
contents of many chests. If you see a chest and I don’t mention it, do NOT
collect it. There are many reasons to skip chests. If a chest contains
something you will need, I will specifically mention the chest and/or
its contents.
When you reach the SAVE POINT, SAVE. Continue north until TERRA is
surrounded and then falls down the hole. RUN AWAY if you are attacked. If you
are pincer attacked, you know what to do. Enjoy the KEFKA flashback and
prepare for your next Boss Fight.

MOOGLE FIGHT

As soon as you have control of the parties, press the Y button. Then open the
menu screen.
Strip MOG of his MITHRIL PIKE and MITHRIL SHIELD.
Back on the map, take one step north with the MOG party and press the Y
button twice. You should now have control of the LOCKE party. Take one step
north and then one step west. Press the Y button two more times, and you will
be in control of the KUSHU party. Open the menu and move everyone to the
Back Row.

PRECISE MOVEMENT MAPPING

This process must be done quickly, if you are not fast enough, you will have to
start over from your last save. This process may “read†difficult, but once you
have an eye for what the movements look like on your television screen, it
becomes quite easy. Upon exiting the menu screen, immediately move:
one pace west
three paces south
one pace east
six paces south
one pace east
one pace south
one pace east
four paces south
one pace west
It will look as though you are about to be pincer attacked. However, at the
last moment your enemy will turn away from you. The moment the coast is
clear to the east, take two paces east and two paces south. Wait until the
enemies have cleared the area where it appeared you would be
pincer attacked. Next take that path and the west side around.
Then head south toward the boss.

Ignore the Lobo for the time being, and focus your attack on Marshal. When he
is dead, kill the 2 Lobo.

MOVING ON

Pay attention to the cut scene. LOCKE takes a hidden passage. Remember the
hidden door where you exit the cave. It is an important place. After the cut
scene has completed and you regain control of your party, you should notice a
man standing in front of a building. Walk up and talk to him, and then enter
the building. Inside are three small rooms and one main room. Enter the small
room to your north. Collect the TINCTURE out of the pottery but do NOT open
the chest. In the other two small rooms open the chest. Touch the RECOVERY
SPRING (the bucket north of the door that exits the building). Remember this
RECOVERY SPRING. It is an important place.

CHARACTER SLOTS

While in the Menu Screen you can change your party’s order. There are 4
character slots for your party members to occupy. The player in character slot
#1 is the lead character and will be displayed while you are on the map screen.
If there is no one occupying character slot #1, the character occupying the
highest character slot will be displayed while you are on the map screen . You
can move characters throughout the slots at your discretion by selecting a
character and moving them up or down.
Open the menu, and put TERRA on the Front Row and in character slot #3.
Place LOCKE in the Back Row, and in slot #2. Exit, and continue south onto
the world map. SAVE. On the map, move south by southwest. Not far from the
edge of the sand, you will find FIGARO CASTLE. RUN AWAY from all battles.

When you enter the castle, make your way north. Enter the throne room and
speak with EDGAR. When you gain control of TERRA, collect the FENIX
DOWN from the chest that is located behind the throne room. If you exit the
throne room you will see some stairs to the northwest. The chest is through the
doorway at the top of those stairs. Go back down the stairs. Raid the chests in
the two shops. Purchase:
3 ECHO SCREEN
and 3 ANTIDOTE.
Next go south and exit the room. Go south, and enter the west door. Go down
the stairs and out the door. Walk west until you see a building. Enter and
speak with the lady. When you regain control of TERRA, go back to the
throne room and talk to EDGAR.

Speak with KEFKA’s men and then to the man himself. Next go north and
speak to LOCKE.
When you regain control of TERRA, follow LOCKE around the castle. When
you gain control of EDGAR, go north, speak to the Chancellor.

MENU SCREEN SPELLCASTING & MULTI-TARGET SPELL CASTING

To cast spells while in the menu screen, go to the SKILLS menu. Choose
Magic and scroll down to the desired spell. Select the spell with the A button.
You will now be prompted to choose a character. In battle or on the menu
screen, once you have selected a spell, tap right button once to muti-target
the spell. Many spells can be used as multi-target spells. Some spells cannot
be used as multi-target spells.

LOCKE has the STEAL command. There are many items that can be acquired
via the STEAL Command. The STEAL Command can only be used during
battle. EDGAR has the Tools Command. This means he gets to use a few cool
little gadgets. You will only be using the Tools Command during battle.

CHOCOBO

CHOCOBO are large bipedal birds that are used as transportation. The M-Tek
Armor battle withstanding, you cannot enter battle while ridding a CHOCOBO.
The A button advances the CHOCOBO forward. The directional pad steers the
CHOCOBO right and left. The B button causes you to dismount the
CHOCOBO.
When you regain control of the party, ride your CHOCOBO strait forward until
you reach the cave. Dismount and enter the cave.

THE PATH TO SOUTH FIGARO

This is a small cave. Be sure to SKIP ALL chests along the way. As per usual,
RUN AWAY from all battles. Once inside the cave, interact with the
RECOVERY SPRING. Open your menu. ALWAYS equip your party from top to
bottom.
Strip everyone of all equipment.
Put everyone in the Back Row.
Next equip EDGAR, LOCKE and TERRA Opt.
Put LOCKE in character slot #4.
Retrace your steps, and exit the cave. Go back onto the World Map and SAVE.
Re-enter the cave. Take the door to the east. In the next room, follow the path
east and then south. When you reach the south end of the cave you will see
some stairs to the northwest. Take the stairs. In the next room, take the door
to the west. You will exit back onto the world map. Make a SAVE. Go southeast
to the town of SOUTH FIGARO.

SOUTH FIGARO

Once in town, enter the RELICS Shop and purchase:
SPRINT SHOES.
Give them to TERRA. Take the stairs to the second floor. Follow the path.
When you reach the southwest corner, take the doorway to the south.
In the next room, notice the stairs in the southeast side of the room.
They are important. Remember the stairs in the east side of this room.
Take the stairs to the southwest, and go back outside. Make your way to the
Rich Mans House. It is the big house at the north end of town. Go to the top
floor. In the master bedroom there is a hidden door to the west of the bed (in
the northwest corner of the room.) Follow the path down stairs. When you
reach a spot where you run into a wall, go strait south, but when you do it
keep going south. You will disappear from the bottom of the screen. After you
have vanished from view, take another few paces south and then east. You will
enter a secret room containing two jail cells. Each cell contains a chest.
Give the HYPER WRIST to EDGAR.
Give the RUNNINGSHOES to TERRA.
Exit the town and SAVE. Make your way north. As per usual, RUN AWAY from
all battles. Enter the cottage, grab the TONIC out of the bucket, and sleep
in a bed. Exit and SAVE. Next make your way east. The entrance to Mt. Koltz is
located in the northeast corner of the map.

MT. KOLTZ

During the first half of Mt. Koltz, make sure to keep your party healthy with
TERRA’s Cure spell. If you get poisoned, use an ANTIDOTE. Do all healing
outside of battle. As per usual, RUN AWAY from all battles.
Once inside make your way to the door in the southeast corner. You will be
outside again. As you cross to the next door, notice the chest to the
southeast. Back inside, make your way to the southeast corner of the room.
You will have to “kind of feel your way†around. Go through the door, and
collect:
GUARDIAN
Give GUARDIAN to LOCKE.
Go back inside. Make your way to the northeast corner of the room. You will
have to “kind of feel your way†around again, but you will find a room with a
chest containing ATLAS ARMLET.
Give the ATLAS ARMLET to EDGAR.
Go back to the main room, and make your way to the door in the northwest
corner. Once outside, follow the shadowy figure around the corner. Enter the
first door, and make your way to the chest (TENT). Go back the way you came
in. Once back outside, enter the door to the west. From here on, follow the
path until you reach the SAVE POINT. Once there, heal everyone with
TERRA’s multi-target Cure, and use a SLEEPING BAG on her. SAVE.
You are now done with the first half of Mt. Koltz. From here until you reach
the boss, ALL healing is to be done by way of TONIC. Make your way along the
path, and if you become poisoned, use an ANTIDOTE. When you reach
VARGAS:
Heal with TONIC.
Put LOCKE in the Front Row.

There is about an 80% chance that you win this fight on the first go-around.
AUTO-CROSSBOW with EDGAR.
Multi-target Fire with TERRA.
Use the Fight Command with LOCKE (alternate enemy each time when
attacking with LOCKE.)
There is a tiny chance that LOCKE will do MIRAGE. It is all but certain that
TERRA will die. There is a good chance that both LOCKE and TERRA will die.
Regardless, keep EDGAR going with his AUTO-CROSSBOW until SABIN
shows up. When SABIN does arrive, choose The BLITZ command and do the
move PUMMEL (left-right-left-A.)

THE BLITZ COMMAND

SABIN has the BLITZ command. If you have ever played Street Fighter II, you
know about Ryu’s fireball. The BLITZ command actually uses the exact
combination of controller movements as Ryu’s fireball for one of the BLITZ
maneuvers. AURABOLT is executed by rotating the D PAD; Down-Down and
Left-Left-A button. To view the list of BLITZs’ SABIN has learned; open the
menu, select skills, select BLITZ.
After the cut scene, enter the door that VARGAS was blocking. Get the chest,
(TENT) and exit to the south. If LOCKE is still alive, strip him of
everything. If he has died, use a TENT and then strip him of everything.
It is paramount that LOCKE has NOTHING in his inventory! SAVE.
Make your way north to the Returners Hideout.
RUN AWAY from all battles.

RETURNERS HIDEOUT

Before you enter the Returners Hideout, double check to make sure that
LOCKE has nothing in his inventory. SAVE. Enter the hideout and speak to
BANNON. When you gain control of TERRA, speak to LOCKE, and get the
chest. Speak to SABIN and check the pottery to the north. Speak to EDGAR
and get the chest. Next go to the shop and purchase:
5 TONIC
Go to the far northwest corner of the hideout. There you will find a room.
At the north end of the room, you will find 4 chests, a bucket, and pottery.
Search them all. Each contains a useful item. There is also a HIDDEN CHEST
located at the end of a short tunnel. You can access it by walking along the
edge of the northeast corner of the room. This chest contains a:
WHITE CAPE
You MUST COLLECT the WHITE CAPE!
Go back to the main room. Talk to the man standing in front of the exit. Exit
and you will see BANNON to the east. Speak to him, say “NOâ€. Go back inside.
Repeat three times. After the third time, you will get a cut scene. LOCKE will
leave and go his own way. You will receive the:
GENJI GLOVE.
BANNON will now be part of your party. Open your menu, make sure that BANNON
is in the Back Row, and that everyone else is on the Front Row. Exit and SAVE.

PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

At certain points in the game, you will have temporary control of various
animals/characters/machines. So far, there has been; WEDGE and VICKS, M-
Tek Armor, Moogles, CHOCOBO and BANNON. These temporary situations
can be used to help you in various ways. This time you are going to use
BANNON to collect some of the GP that will soon be needed.

Walk around until you encounter a battle. Kill off everyone except BANNON.
For once, you are actually going to be fighting enemies instead of running
away from them. What you are going to do here is collect some GP.
I recommend that you have no less than 5,800 GP before you advance.
Make sure to SAVE after every battle. You may notice that Bannon is gaining
levels. This is of no concern. BANNON’s level will not get calculated into your
party’s level. This makes him a wonderful tool for collecting GP. Once you
have your 5,800 GP, enter the Hide Out. Stay at the INN and make your way to
the SAVE POINT. Open your menu. Strip everyone of all weapons and armor.
Put everyone in the Back Row.

Now head directly south and into the hidden passageway. When you reach the
river, jump onto the raft. Float your way up the river and go “left†every
time you are prompted to make a choice. RUN AWAY from all battles, and when you
reach a SAVE POINT, SAVE. At the second SAVE POINT, heal with TONIC
and SAVE. Jump back onto the raft. You are now on your way to meet
ULTROS.

You should win on your first try. There is only about a 1/1000 chance that
TERRA will survive, but don’t worry about her. Continue what you are doing,
and you should be fine.

After the battle is over, you will be prompted to pick a scenario. Choose the
BANNON scenario. When you are back on the World Map, SAVE. Follow the
path north to NARSHE. When you reach the town, go hit the RECOVERY
SPRING. Exit the building, and go west. Interact with the wall at the spot that
LOCKE opened the secret door at the beginning of the game.
Make your way though the cave, along the same path TERRA took when you
left the house with the Elixir in the clock. That house is your destination.
Along the way you will have to go through a security check point.
You will know it when you see it. Make sure you fail the check point until you
encounter:
DARK SIDE.
Attack DARK SIDE with anyone, and then RUN AWAY.
Successfully go through the check point, and then continue on your way. Make
sure to grab the 2 chests you left behind on your last trip through this cave.
As you are CROSSING the catwalk and BEFORE you enter the house, open your
inventory.

Then enter the house. Watch the cut scene and choose the LOCKE scenario.

When you gain control of LOCKE, give him:

Make your way up the stairs, and enter the shop. There will be a Merchant
standing at the north end of the room. Pick a fight with him, and
STEAL his clothes. Next go to the Old Man’s house. The Old Man’s house
is to the southwest. Go downstairs, and exit to the north. To the west is a
bridge that is unblocked by the Imperials. You can’t really see it because
there is a building hiding it from your view. Use the hidden bridge and
make your way to the INN.
Do you remember purchasing the SPRINT SHOES and then going up the
stairs? Remember the stairs in the east end of the room that you were suppose
to remember? Take those stairs. There is a room down those stairs. That room
contains a Merchant. Pick a fight with the Merchant. STEAL his clothes and
then take the Cider back to the Old Man. Go back down stairs and give the kid
the password:
COURAGE
Make your way to the Rich Mans house via the Secret Passageway.
Make sure to grab the ELIXER from the clock and the FENIX DOWN
from the barrel. When you reach the patio of the Rich Man’s house,
go inside and up stairs to the master bedroom. Take the secret
passageway. There will be a cut scene when you reach the first door.
Walk up to CELES and choose “Free CELES.†Take the key from the guard,
and exit the room. Back in the hallway, open your menu.
Put CELES in the Back Row.
Equip her Opt.
Put her in slot #4.
SAVE your game in the middle room, and then enter the room to the east. Get
all of the chests. Wind the clock in the northeast corner of the room, and then
enter the newly-opened door.

MORE OF THE RICH MANS’ TREASURE

RUN AWAY from all battles. Outside of battle, use CELES’s Cure spell to heal
the party. There are a few key items that you MUST collect down here. You will
find the first chest to the southeast. It contains an:
IRON ARMOR
It is locateddown a straight narrow hallway that runs north and south.
After you get the chest, go north. Take the path to the east and when you
reach the hallway running north and south, STOP. Take 3 paces south and
3 paces west. Then go south until you reach some stairs. Take the stairs.
You will find a sub-basement containing a few goodies. It is paramount that
you get the:
RIBBON
It is hidden in a chest, off of the screen, and directly south of the
chest with the X-POTION.
Make your way back up the stairs, and get the two chests off to the northeast:
HEAVY SHIELD
Next go to the far southwest corner, and get the:
EARRRINGS
Exit the basement by way of the stairs to your east. Exit the house via the
door to the north. When you exit, continue going north and you will find
yourself back on the World Map.

Once back on the world map, SAVE. RUN AWAY from all battles. Outside of
battle, use CELES’s Cure spell to keep the party healthy. Go up to the cottage
and get some sleep. Next head west and make your way to the entrance of the
Cave. SAVE.
Enter and make your way through the cave. Make sure to get the:
TINCTURE Southeast area of the main room.
THUNDER ROD Hidden in a room accessible from the northwest corner
of the main room.
When you reach the RECOVERY SPRING, heal and open your menu. Go to
your items, and place TONIC at the top of the list. Place POTION next in line.
Next, strip everyone of EVERYTHING, including RELICS.
Give LOCKE GENJI GLOVE.
Make sure he has AIR LANCET and GUARDIAN equipped.
Give him LEATHER HAT and LEATHER ARMOR.
Give CELES TRUE KNIGHT.
Give her REGAL CUTLAS, HEAVY SHIELD, and LEATHER ARMOR.

TUNNEL ARMOR

This battle can be easy, or it can be difficult, but it’s basically as easy as
you make it. What you want to do is RUNIC with CELES as soon as it is her turn.
For the duration of this battle, you will use only the RUNIC command with
CELES. However, you never want to RUNIC twice in a row unless interrupted
by a magic attack from TUNNEL ARMOR. CELES should be open to command
at almost anytime during the battle. As soon as TUNNEL ARMOR casts a spell,
RUNIC and then wait until another spell is cast and repeat. LOCKE will be
doing everything else. STEAL until you are successful. Next use him as your
healer by way of TONIC. Or, if your health falls below 30, use a POTION. If no
one needs healing, choose the Fight Command. By repeating these two
processes without making a mistake, you should win this fight on your first
try. If LOCKE dies, have CELES cast Ice until she either kills TUNNEL ARMOR,
or dies trying. If CELES dies, it’s not worth the FENIX DOWN. Have LOCKE
use the Fight Command until he either kills TUNNEL ARMOR, or dies trying.
If you fail to beat TUNNEL ARMOR, reset and load your game. Up next is the
SABIN scenario.

This scenario is by far the most time-consuming of the three. When you have
control of SABIN, SAVE. Go to the cottage to the east. You will see a Merchant
mounted upon a CHOCOBO. Go and speak to him. Purchase:
10 SHURIKEN
and 6 TONIC.
Next, talk to the man in black. Once SHADOW has joined your party,
remove his equipment. Make sure everyone is in the Back Row.
Give SABIN RIBBON and EARRINGS.
Equip him Opt.
Give SHADOW WHITE CAPE and SPRINT SHOES.
Equip him Opt.
Next enter the cottage. Take a nap and then go back out onto the World Map.
SAVE. SHADOW will be in level 5. Head east and then south, along the coast.
When you see the patch of sand in front of a small bridge, you have reached
the IMERIAL BASE. As always, RUN AWAY from everything. If Interseptor
counters and that kill ends the battle, reset the game.

Once inside the base, watch the cut scenes. When you gain control of CYAN:
Put him in the Back Row.

When you gain control of SHADOW, enter the Tent to the southeast
and interact with the chest inside. When prompted select “hit it.â€
After the guard leaves, open the chest. Exit the Tent, and continue south
to the next cut scene. Use the Fight Command on KEFKA both times.
When he stops to talk to a soldier, go north and enter the Tent.
Before opening any of the chests,
heal with TONIC. Open both of the chests.

If someone does die, use a FENIX DOWN on him, and keep attacking.

Use AURABOLT and Throw SHURIKEN in all remaining battles.

THE UNSUNG HERO

CYAN’s tragic scene is next. He freaks out and goes all
“My name is CYAN GARAMONDE… You killed my family… Prepare to die…â€
on the Empire. Give him a hand with it. When you get into the
Magitec Armor:
Make sure CYAN is in the Back Row.
Strip SHADOW of EVERYTHING, including RELICS.
Give CYAN WHITE CAPE and SPRINT SHOES.
Equip him Opt.
You will fight 3 battles in the Magitec Armor. During the 3rd battle make sure
to use Heal Force to heal the party to full, then attack. Exit the Base. SAVE.
Make your way through the PHANTOM Forest and onto the PHANTOM Train.
Make sure to hit up the RECOVERY SPRING (pond) along the way.

Before leaving the train, you MUST ACQUIRE the:

RUN AWAY from all battles. If someone dies leave them dead.
Once on the train, try to leave the way entered. Then go to the caboose on the
east end of the train. Talk to the ghost. Have him join your party, and put
him in the Back Row. If your ghost friend dies before you fight SPECTOR, make
sure to pick up a different ghost. Throughout the train, there will be random
ghosts who will join your party. From here on, keep heading west, towards the
engine. When you reach the Dinning Car, grab a bite to eat.
Make sure to collect the EARRINGS. The chest with the EARRRINGS is on the
west end of the Dinning car, and can only be accessed from the west side of
the Dinning Car.
Give the EARRRINGS to SABIN in place of RUNNINGSHOES.
Give the RUNNINGSHOES to CYAN in place of WHITE CAPE.
When you reach the room containing the 4 chests, get the chests.
When you find SPECTOR in the chest, use “possess†with your little
ghost friend. When you reach the engine, enter the cab,
and hit the left and right switches.
Go back outside and press A button on the smokestack.

PHANTOM TRAIN

As soon as you can attack, use FENIX DOWN on the train.
Watch the cut scene. When you gain control of the party SAVE.
Next follow the path and you will end up at Baron Falls. Double-check to make
sure SHADOW has been stripped of everything and enter Baron Falls.

When you get to the bottom, you will fight RIZOPAZ.
I figure you have about a 75% chance of beating this guy on your first try.
If RIZOPAZ casts Elninio you will probably die.

When GAU runs off, leave your character motionless for a moment.
This is probably the most peaceful place in the world.
Take a minute or two to appreciate the attention to detail that was put
into such a simple place. Think about how long it took the
programmers of this game to create this one simple place, a place that was
not even needed. And a place to which you will never return.

CHANGING GEAR DURING BATTLE

You can change what weapons and/or shield your characters have equipped
during battle. To do this, select “itemâ€. Next press up on the D-Pad.
You will be given the option to select whatever is equipped in either your
right or left hand. If you have a GENJI GLOVE equipped, you could have
2 weapons to choose from. Select the gear you want to replace by pressing
the A button. Now scroll down to the gear you want to equip and press the A
button (the gear you are allowed to equip is highlighted yellow.)
Now press the B button. Your gear has been swapped.

THE VELDT

Give CYAN WHITE CAPE in place of RUNNINGSHOES.
Give SABIN RIBBON and RUNNINGSHOES.
Heal with TONIC, and if you run
out, don’t worry about it. When on the World Map, SAVE. Make your way east,
toward the town of MOBLITZ. KILL ALL ENEMIES you encounter.
If you encounter GAU, attack him. I know it doesn’t feel right, but that is
just the way it is. When you get to town you will need to do some shopping.
Purchase:
1 MAGUS HAT
10 DRIED MEAT
1 MITHRIL CLAW
1 KOTETSU
Open your menu. Equip your newly purchased weapons.
Choose “arrange†in your items menu and put DRIED MEAT at the top
of the list, followed by FENIX DOWN and TINCTURE. Next go to the RELICS
shop. Sleep in the bed. Exit and SAVE. Start fighting battles. When GAU shows
up, give him a piece of DRIED MEAT. He will join your party.
Give GAU both of your EARRRINGS
Equip him Opt.

GAU is very unique. He does not equip weapons. He has the LEAP Command.
He has the RAGE Command. His home is the VELDT and he can be left there
indefinitely. He is the key to this journey.
Before you can advance, there are a number of RAGEs’ you will NEED to
learn. The enemies you will NEED to use the “LEAP†command on are:
RODOX, DARK SIDE, TEMPLAR, and PRIMORDITE.
After you kill 2 TELSTAR, equip CYAN and GAU with GREEN BERET.
From now until you leave the Veldt, your all around best attacks are:
AURABOLT
DISPATCH
TEMPLAR RAGE.
There is nothing wrong with battling just outside of town. That way when you
get low on health, you can pop into the RELICS shop for a free nap.
SAVE often. When you have learned the 4 RAGEs’ you NEED to learn,
head back to town. Purchase:
9 SLEEPING BAG
As many DRIED MEAT as you can afford (maximum of 50).
Put GAU in the Back Row.
SAVE. Take a nap at the RELICS shop. Exit town and SAVE. Fight until you have
amassed between 25,000-30,000 GP. When you have your GP,
go back to town. Purchase:
DRIED MEAT until you have a total of 50 DRIED MEAT.
After you have your DRIED MEAT, and know your RAGEs’,

Make your way south across the Veldt. When you reach the cave,
make a SAVE. Enter the cave, and find GAU’s:
TREASURE
The treasure is located in the southwest corner of the cave, and right in the
middle of the path. If you look closely there are tiles where the ground looks
as though it may have been disturbed. The Treasure is buried in one of those
tiles. After you have the Treasure, go back out the way you came in.
Make a SAVE. Re-enter the cave, and go back to where the Treasure was.
To the south of there, you will find the jump sight. Jump into the river.

RAGING RIVERS

From here on out, you are RUNNING AWAY from all battles.
As you ride the river, you will be thrown into battle. RUN AWAY.
You will be prompted to go east or west. Make sure you always take
the east path. In the first cave there is a chest with an:

In the second cave there is a switch you must stand on. The switch drains the
water so that you can advance. In the next room, collect the chest:

Exit the cave. Once you reach NIKEAH harbor, enter the town.
Purchase:

Stay at the INN. Grab the ELIXER from the clock on your way out.

Go back to the ship, board it, and watch the cut scene.

When you gain control of TERRA, SAVE.

You should remember the battle you had using the Moogles against Marshal
Where you stripped Mog of his Shield, and his Pike. This is going to play out
the same way as that battle did. You will be in control of TERRA.
Walk up to CELES and press the A button.
Strip CELES of everything.
Next go over to EDGAR.
Give EDGAR HYPER WRIST, and ATLAS ARMLET.
Equip him Opt. Give him TONIC.
Next go over to LOCKE.
Give LOCKE HYPER WRIST. Let him equip Opt.
Then make sure he has GUARDIAN equipped. Put him on the Front Row.
If he is not at full health, give him TONIC.
SAVE!
Next talk to BANNON, and set up the parties. Party number one is the only
important party. Party number one is displayed below. As for the other
2 parties, you can construct them as you see fit.

You are going to have to do this very quickly. Just as in the Moogle battle,
you will be taking a specific path that I have laid out for you. As soon as you

Make your way to FIGARO CASTLE. RUN AWAY from everything.
Once you arrive in FIGARO, stay at the INN.
Make sure EDGAR is in the party lead, and do some shopping. Purchase:

3 TINCTURE
25 FENIX DOWN
2 REVEVIFY
10 ANTIDOTE
Next open the item menu, choose “arrange†items, and move SMOKE BOMB to
the top of the list; followed by DRIED MEAT, FENIX DOWN and TINCTURE.
Next, go down stairs, and tell the man to take you to KOHLINGEN.
Once on the other side of the mountain, exit, and SAVE.

HOP SKIP AND A JUMP

Head north along the coast until you reach a cottage.
Inside you will find some pottery. One of the pieces of pottery contains
a HERO RING. Exit the cottage, and enter the patch of trees to the northwest of
the cottage. Inside of the trees is a CHOCOBO stable.

Rent a CHOCOBO. Make your way south, all the way around the mountains.
Past the town of JIDOOR, and back north, all the way up to the town of ZOZO.
When you reach ZOZO, Dismount the CHOCOBO.

Give LOCKE RUNNINGSHOES in place of HYPER WRIST. Equip him Opt.
Put him in the Back Row.
Make sure everyone is at full health. If anyone is not at full health,
use TONIC or DRIED MEAT. SAVE.

If you get into battle with either HEGEUS GIGUS or SLAMDANCER,
use a SMOKE BOMB. You should RUN AWAY from everything else.
Between battles, use DRIED MEAT and TONIC to keep the party healthy.
The goal is to make your way to the top of the tallest building.
There are two points where you will have to jump from building to building.
Go southwest, past the Café.
Enter the building with the RELICS icon above the door.
Make your way to the top of the building. When you reach the floor with all the
dudes moving in line, get in line and go through the door at the top.
When you are back outside, go up one floor, and stop.
Notice what appears to be a door at the west side of this story of the
building. It is a place where you can jump over to the building to the west.
Enter the doorway, and press left on the D-Pad. Go a few paces west,
and jump to the far west building. Follow the path, and you will come across
some pottery and a bucket. Search the two north most pottery. You will collect
a TINCTURE and a POTION. Continue along the path. When you reach the top
of the building, jump over to the east most building. Follow the path until you
see a man blocking he way. Look to the southeast of where the
man is standing. There is a door. Inside is a chest containing FIRE KNUCKLE.
Collect the chest, and walk up to the man and open your menu.
Give LOCKE SNEAK RING in place of SPRINT SHOES.
Heal everyone via DRIED MEAT. Talk to the man.

Make your way south to JIDOOR. RUN AWAY from all battles.
Use CELES’s Cure spell outside of battle to heal. Once in JIDOOR,
go to OZAR’s House. His house is the massive house at the north end of town.
Speak with IMPRESARIO. In the pottery found in the northeast-most
corner of the house, you will find a:
TINCTURE
Read the letter on the floor, and exit town. Make a SAVE. Take the path to
south, to the OPERA HOUSE.
SAVE.

OPERA HOUSE PART I

Before you enter, use CELES to heal the party via multi-cast Cure.
Put CYAN, and LOCKE on the Front Row. SAVE. When you enter,
talk to IMPRESARIO. Watch the cut scene, and the opening of the opera.
When you gain control of LOCKE, make your way downstairs,
and enter the room to the east. Talk to CELES. Do her part of the show.
Choose her lines in this order:

“I’m the darknessâ€
“must I"
After you have chosen her lines, walk up to the other actor,
and press the A button. Follow him around and every time he stops,
interact with him. When he turns into flowers, pick them up.
Use the stairs to get to the top of the stage. Walk over to the ledge,
and go as far west as you can. The scene ends, and you regain
control of LOCKE. Pick up the note, and run back upstairs.
Inform IMPRESARIO of what has transpired. When the countdown begins,
let the time run out. You will be kicked out of the OPERA HOUSE.

OPERA HOUSE PART II

Make a SAVE, and enter. When LOCKE is free to move around again, go back
out to the foyer, and grab ULTROS’s note. Talk to IMPRESARIO,
and then make your way northeast. In the next room hit the far right switch,
and go back the way you came. Make your way to the far northwest side,
and enter the next room. You will notice Rats roaming around on the rafters.
If you contact one, you are thrown into battle.
You must reach ULTROS fighting no more than two battles consisting of only
three enemies per fight. GAU must NOT attack until the gold rat, CYAN,
and LOCKE are dead. GAU must be the only party member alive at the end of
each battle. There will be two battles with Sewer Rats and both will be fought
the exact same way.

SEWER RATS

Have CYAN and LOCKE use the Fight Command.
Target ONLY the Gold Sewer Rat.
If needed, have GAU use DRIED MEAT to heal himself.
Do NOT heal CYAN or LOCKE.
When the Gold Rat is dead, have LOCKE and CYAN kill each other.
GAU should be at full health. When the gold rat, CYAN and LOCKE
are all dead, have GAU use his RODOX RAGE.
Wait for the battle to finish, and as soon as you are able, heal the
party full. Use FENIX DOWN on the fallen, and then heal with DRIED MEAT.
As soon as you finish your second battle with Sewer Rats,
use FENIX DOWN on the fallen, and then heal with DRIED MEAT.
Then get to ULTROS as fast as you can. Be mindful that you can only
have two battles consisting of only three enemies per fight.
When you reach ULTROS:
Give LOCKE RIBBON in place of SPRINT SHOES.
Put LOCKE in slot #4.
Put both CYAN and LOCKE in the Back Row.

You have about a 95% chance of beating ULTROS on the first try.
DISPATCH

Use LOCKE’s Esper.
After LOCKE has used his Esper, have him heal the party via DRIED MEAT.
If everyone is good on health, keep LOCKE open to command until
ULTROS has been hit by NUMB BLADE. After that, use the Fight Command.
There is a tiny chance that LOCKE will do MIRAGE, but don’t count on it.
The only problem you could face is if GAU refuses to do his
NUMB BLADE attack. CYAN or possibly even GAU
(very rarely will GAU get hit) will become an “Imp†or get poisoned.
If Imp hits, use a GREEN CHERRY. If Poison hits, use an ANTIDOTE.
If it takes GAU a while to do his NUMB BLADE attack, don’t sweat it.
He will do it eventually. Keep using DISPATCH with CYAN, and keep using
items with LOCKE. If CYAN or GAU get muddled, have LOCKE use
Fight Command on the muddled character right away. After the fight is over,
enjoy the fairly long cut scene, and get ready for the
next leg of your journey!

When you gain control of the party, SAVE.
Give LOCKE SPRINT SHOES in place of RIBBON.

SAVE. Enter the Air Ship. Get REFRESHMENTS from the man to the west.
Remove your 3 GREEN BERET. Go talk to the man on to the east,
and sell all of your GREEN BERET. You should have between 4 and 12
of them. You should now have more than 17,400 GP. If you do not have
17,400 GP, you can sell your FIRE KNUCKLE and/or PEACE RING.
When you have your 17,400 GP, exit the Air Ship, and enter the
town of ALBROOK. Go to the RELICS shop and purchase a:
WALL RING
Go to the weapons shop and purchase:
FORGED
Exit and SAVE. Make your way northwest and you will run into the city
of VECTOR. SMOKE BOMB every time you get attacked.

Enter the city and go west. You will see a thin building, enter it
and talk to the lady. Answer “no.†Upon answering no, you will be
thrown into battle. RUN AWAY. Talk to the woman again.

Next go to the armor shop. Purchase:

1 MITHRIL VEST.
Give CYAN WALL RING in place of HYPER WRIST.
Equip him Opt. Give him BUCKLER.
Give LOCKE BARDS HAT and remove his RUNNINGSHOES.
Give GAU WALL RING in place of HYPER WRIST. Equip him Opt.
Give CELES RUNNINGSHOES and WHITE CAPE. Equip her Opt.
Go back and talk with the RECOVERY SPRING lady. Exit town and SAVE.

Go back into town. Head northeast and you will see a man who is standing
behind some crates. Talk to him. When you interact with him, approach him
from the east side. Tell him “yesâ€. After the mini cut scene:
take 1 pace north,

Laugh at the second half of the mini cut scene and go north
and into the MAGITEK FACTORY.

You are going to SMOKE BOMB just about every fight you get into.
However, if you get a “side attack†you should be able to save a SMOKE BOMB
and just RUN AWAY. You can probably RUN AWAY from battles where
you have a “preemptive†attack as well. If you run low on health,
on your way to the SAVE POINT, don’t worry about it.
Keep using your SMOKE BOMB. You can heal when you get there.
There are a number of must collect items in here.
I will be mentioning these items as you come across them.
Follow the path. When you reach some tubes, take the top tube west.
Get the chest:
FLAME SABER
Next, take the crane east, across the gap. Continue east, and notice the chest
to the south. Take the second tube south and get the chest:
TINCTURE
Go back up and take the other tube south. When you get off the conveyor,
grab the chest to your west:
X-POTION
Then go east onto the next conveyor. Grab the chest to your northeast :
THUNDER BLADE
Then go south. Grab the next chest and get on the next conveyor.
Next go west-southwest and get the chest:

Then take the stairs north. Follow the path leading to the chest:

Give the GOLD SHIELD to CELES.
Next make your way back to the bottom
of the stairs. Continue going east until you hit a wall.
Go south and down the short flight of stairs.
Keep going south and again hit the wall. Stop.
To the left is a small room which contains a chest:

The door to the room blends into the wall a little bit.
After you get the chest go back out and head east.
As you walk, look to the south for another door that tends to blend into
the wall. Behind that door is a small room containing a chest:
GOLD ARMOR
The chest is hidden from view. It’s to the west and a little north
when you are inside the room.
Give the GOLD ARMOR to CELES.
Go back out of the room and take the stairs to your right.
Grab the chest:

Go back to the conveyer that brought you here.
When you get back to the conveyer, do NOT get back on.
Go across to the north side of the conveyer. Go up the stairs and east.
Notice that there is a break in the crates. Look closer, you will see a
tube there. Enter the tube and follow the path to the south. After a few
paces you will see a small room to the east.
Get both chests:
BLIZZARD
ZEPHYER CAPE
Give the ZEPHYER CAPE to LOCKE
Go back to where you came from. Once out of the tube, go north
and then west. Get on the conveyor. Next go south and check out KEFKA
being KEFKA. When he is through, take the conveyor down.
When you get to the bottom, stop and look for a moment.
There are two doors on the northern wall.
Immediately enter the west most door.
Heal with DRIED MEAT and/or FENIX DOWN.
Give LOCKE SNEAK RING in place of SPRINT SHOES.
SAVE.

IFRIT & SHEIVA

You have about a 95% chance of winning this battle on the first attempt.
About the only reason for you to lose would be if IFRIT casts
multi-target Blaze. Do you remember fighting Tunnel Armor with LOCKE and CELES?
This fight uses the same strategy. If LOCKE dies before he uses his Esper,
reset and load your game.
You NEED to use LOCKE’s Esper with your first attack.
RUNIC with your second attack.
Then DISPATCH and the BRAWLER RAGE.
If LOCKE dies after the first round of attack, let him lay there.
If CELES dies you will probably be fine as well.
DISPATCH as soon as CYAN can attack,
and RUNIC the moment CELES needs to RUNIC.
GAU is on autopilot. LOCKE will probably die. It would be sweet if he could
show off his MIRAGE move in one of these fights. He will do it eventually
but it sure is rare.

After you win, go talk to both Espers. Collect their MAGICITE.
Go back to the room with the SAVE POINT. If someone died, use a Tent.
If not, heal with CELES’s Cure. Then use a SLEEPING BAG on her.

Give GAU HYPER WRIST and ATLAS ARMLET.
Give LOCKE SPRINT SHOES in place of ZEPHYER CAPE.
Give CELES the Esper SHIVA and THUNDER BLADE.
SAVE.
Exit the room with the SAVE POINT, and enter the door to the east.
Make your way up the stairs. SMOKE BOMB everything.
Follow the path to #024. When you reach him:
Give LOCKE RUNNINGSHOES in place of SPRINT SHOES.
Heal with TONIC and you are ready to go.

I figure you have about a 75% chance of beating this guy on your first attempt.
If he does his earth attack, you will die. He will rarely use this attack.
He has to be in a certain Wall Change. While in this specific state,
he must execute a particular command. Let’s just say it’s RARE
and leave it at that.

BRAWLER RAGE.
Use LOCKE’s Esper and then STEAL until successful.
Multi-target Cure the party with CELES.
After LOCKE has stolen his item, have him use the Fight Command
or act as a second healer.
If LOCKE dies, bring him back with CELES by way of FENIX DOWN
and vice versa. Keep an eye on CELES’s MP. When you see that she has
only 8 MP left, have use her multi-target Cure but on LOCKE’s next turn,
have him use a TINCTURE on CELES. This way she never has to skip a turn
healing the party. If CYAN or GAU die, have LOCKE use a FENIX DOWN.
Ideally you would like to use FENIX DOWN with LOCKE and then immediately
multi-target Cure (or use FENIX DOWN and immediately use DRIED MEAT.)
If CELES runs out of MP a second time,
(she will probably NOT run out a second time) don’t bother using another
TINCTURE. Just have her use the Fight Command for the remained of the battle.
If the battle has lasted that long, #024 has very little HP left and will
die quite soon.

status is vanish, they are 100% immune to physical attacks.
On the other hand, they are 100% vulnerable to magic attacks.

as well as an enemy party. Vanish can only be used in battle.

I recommended that you do NOT use GAU’s RAGEs’. Use DISPATCH until
you kill it or it kills itself by casting a spell on GAU. If you want to
risk the biscuit, you CAN use the TEMPLAR RAGE. The problem with using
a RAGE is that CYAN could be killed before GAU kills the Mag Roader.
If that happens, you would have to reset and load your game.

GAU and LOCKE need to be ALIVE.
Use same strategy as in Battle #1.
Use the Fight Command with LOCKE in place of DISPATCH.

GAU and CYAN need to be ALIVE. Because this battle has only one enemy,
